Purchasing a hat

When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.

To measure the head

You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

  Measure the circumference around the head keeping  the tape level and firm,
 just above the ears, across the forehead and over the  bump on the back of the head.
 As a guide -  take your head measurement and add approximately half an inch, for comfort, this will give your hat size for a TwiLd Capit Hog handmade hat.

This handmade smoking cap is reminiscent of the Victorian carpet bag with it's floral tapestry crown, in warm colours of taupe, gold, red and green.

Soft tactile microfibre in soft sand forms the tip, which is quilted with gold stitching and hand embellished with honey gold coloured seed beads. 

Floral chenille tapestry design in natural fibres (remnant fabric possibly cotton/wool mix), along with fine cotton taupe corduroy that has been quilted to cotton winceyette, form the crown. The quilted corduroy continues through to the inside as part of the lining with chocolate brown vintage satin.  

This elegant hat is based on the eastern looking smoking cap of the 1860's/70's.

  • Medium - approx. 23 inch / 58.5cm
  • Large - approx. 24 inch / 61cm
  • Extra Large - 25 inch / 63.5cm

(measurements are approx. and will be within acceptable tolerance)

**As a guide - take your head measurement add approx. half an inch (for comfort) this gives your hat size.

Materials:  polyester microfibre, cotton covered polyester wadding, natural fibre tapestry fabric possibly cotton/ wool mix, cotton corduroy, upcycled cotton winceyette, vintage satin, seed beads.

Each is individually handmade so will differ slightly. Including fabric pattern which is determined by cut, and angle of quilting on tip which is determined after being quilted.

Absolutely amazing, I saw this item in the medium size that was available, I knew I had to have it, I even messaged the owner if it was possible to make it in my size.

One day I logged on to Esty and there it was listed in my size, I knew immediately what I had to do, it was in two other peoples baskets, but no ! it was destined to me mine !

When it arrived I was astounded, the quality of materials and the craftsmanship was beyond anything I could imagined, this thinking cap was made and designed not to last years but to last decades. I am beyond delighted to own this Harris Tweed cap and I know I will grow old wearing it, I will keep it in great condition so when I have children I will pass it on to them. it was so great and fantastic I even bought another one and I'm thinking about buying a third one.
