When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.
To measure the head
You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

Couldn't load pickup availability
This is a Gothic version of the Victorian pillbox style smoking cap. Handmade in dusky purple soft cotton corduroy with felted layered textiles to the tip, black velvet crown with black machine embroidery edging, and macrame tassel with satin ribbon trim. An eye catching hat!
Felted designs, even when repeated, have their own very distinct character and are therefore one offs. No two are ever identical!
The tip of the hat is layered with aubergine fabric and black corded lace, topped with mossy wisps of purple wool top using a combination of needle felting and nuno felting techniques, which is then machine stitched into. This gives the lace and under fabric a distressed effect and an aged vintage look. The finished fabric is quilted and beaded with small jet black bugle beads.
Sumptuous black velvet edged with subtle self-colour machine embroidery and the purple corduroy make up the crown. The corduroy continues through to the inside to form the lining along with blue polyester satin.
The hat is finished with a beautiful vintage jet black glass button, with an art-deco design, and a removable macrame tassel.
An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. A stunning Gothic style hat.
