Purchasing a hat

When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.

To measure the head

You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

Head picture of a Victorian male with a measure line indicated around his forehead.
Measure the circumference around the head keeping  the tape level and firm,
just above the ears, across the forehead and over the  bump on the back of the head.
As a guide -  take your head measurement and add approximately half an inch, for comfort, this will give your hat size for a TwiLd Capit Hog handmade hat.

An outstandingly unique hat, with a combination of age, luxury and character. A modern day ethnic inspired Smoking/ Thinking Cap with vintage Welsh Tapestry.

The distinctive tip is made of patchwork segments in chocolate brown cotton drill and salmon pink cotton with cashmere corduroy. These echo two of the colours in the Welsh Tapestry patterned band on the crown, which also includes the stunning use of yellow. An edging of salmon pink corduroy highlights the gorgeous wool tapestry. The Welsh Tapestry is repurposed from a preloved item and is 100% wool.

The luxurious salmon corduroy carries through to the inside of the hat to form part of the lining along with fine cotton twill in rust, for comfortable wear. The salmon pink corduroy is repurposed from a preloved garment and is cotton with 4% cashmere.

The tip is quilted using four layers, in the unique TwiLd Capit Hog style, combining polyester wadding and cotton, for comfort, structure and durability. The patterned and corduroy crown can be fully turned up or lowered to give a more nonchalant look. An unusual design of vintage metal button adds the final detail to the centre of the tip.

I make hats as unique as the people who wear them. This design, with its mix of fabric and trimmings, will be produced in a very limited number. This is because the main fabrics are repurposed pieces, and the button is vintage and I have a limited quantity.

An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.

Quite wonderful

My Sunset fleece pillbox hat, Mens ethnic skullcap is beautifully made and actually fits my XL head. The hat is exquisitely made, fits perfectly and is nicely light. Thank you.

I love the design so much. The hat itself made-up silk, corduroy, gemstones and Completed with a tassel, it’s magnificent design is a modern spin of the classical smoking hats. I'm beyond pleased and privileged to own this. I proudly own three hats from this store, I'll be taking great care of them. I’m very lucky to have encountered Julie who is a marvellous artist here on Esty who’s creations haven given me a tremendous amount of joy.

Absolutely amazing, I saw this item in the medium size that was available, I knew I had to have it, I even messaged the owner if it was possible to make it in my size.

One day I logged on to Esty and there it was listed in my size, I knew immediately what I had to do, it was in two other peoples baskets, but no ! it was destined to me mine !

When it arrived I was astounded, the quality of materials and the craftsmanship was beyond anything I could imagined, this thinking cap was made and designed not to last years but to last decades. I am beyond delighted to own this Harris Tweed cap and I know I will grow old wearing it, I will keep it in great condition so when I have children I will pass it on to them. it was so great and fantastic I even bought another one and I'm thinking about buying a third one.
