When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.
To measure the head
You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

This is a bohemian version of the Victorian style smoking cap, handmade in dark cyan blue cotton corduroy with felted layered textiles to the tip and crown. A stunning piece of wearable art with a gypsy feel!
Felted designs, even when repeated, have their own very distinct character and are therefore one offs. No two are ever identical!
The tip of the hat is layered with blue checked brushed cotton and recycled black corded lace, topped with mossy wisps of blue, green and white wool top using a combination of needle felting and nuno felting techniques, which is then machine stitched into. This gives the lace and under fabric a distressed effect and an aged vintage look.
The finished fabric is then quilted for structure, and hand embellished with multi coloured seed beads.
The felted embellishment is carried through onto one side of the crown, with the addition of blue satin corded braid. Satin lining completes the bohemian Gypsy look of this stunning smoking cap.
An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.
