Purchasing a hat

When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.

To measure the head

You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

  Measure the circumference around the head keeping  the tape level and firm,
 just above the ears, across the forehead and over the  bump on the back of the head.
 As a guide -  take your head measurement and add approximately half an inch, for comfort, this will give your hat size for a TwiLd Capit Hog handmade hat.

The vibrant weave of the beautiful patterned fabric was the inspiration for this Smoking Cap with an ethnic feel. This handmade hat has a distinctive quilted tip of patchwork segments of black and cream corduroy, enhanced with block square machine embroidery in red to compliment the crown. 

A deep patterned band in black, red, cream and gold adds an ethnic quality to the crown, highlighted by the edging of black corduroy. The soft black corduroy carries through to the inside of the hat to form part of the lining along with black cotton twill, for comfortable wear.

The patterned and corduroy crown can be fully turned up or lowered to give a more nonchalant look. A beautiful black glass vintage button with an Art Deco design adds the final detail to the centre of the tip, for attaching the removable tassel. The fine tassel has been crafted using black braid knotted in a macrame design. Both the button and tassel add uniqueness to the hat with the combination of age and characterful imperfections. 

An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.

Absolutely amazing, I saw this item in the medium size that was available, I knew I had to have it, I even messaged the owner if it was possible to make it in my size.

One day I logged on to Esty and there it was listed in my size, I knew immediately what I had to do, it was in two other peoples baskets, but no ! it was destined to me mine !

When it arrived I was astounded, the quality of materials and the craftsmanship was beyond anything I could imagined, this thinking cap was made and designed not to last years but to last decades. I am beyond delighted to own this Harris Tweed cap and I know I will grow old wearing it, I will keep it in great condition so when I have children I will pass it on to them. it was so great and fantastic I even bought another one and I'm thinking about buying a third one.
