Purchasing a hat

When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.

To measure the head

You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

  Measure the circumference around the head keeping  the tape level and firm,
 just above the ears, across the forehead and over the  bump on the back of the head.
 As a guide -  take your head measurement and add approximately half an inch, for comfort, this will give your hat size for a TwiLd Capit Hog handmade hat.

This handmade Smoking Cap features a vintage woven fabric with an ethnic feel.

A patchwork of charcoal and cream cotton corduroy forms the distinctive quilted tip, enhanced by blocks of red square machine embroidery.

The ethnic band in black, cream and red with gold thread detail highlights the crown, edged with vibrant red corduroy. The red corduroy carries through to the inside of the hat to form part of the lining along with fine red cotton twill, for comfortable wear.

An unusual design of vintage button adds the final detail to the centre of the tip, for attaching the removable tassel. It's subtle cream and black tones along with its dome shape adds to the hats ethnic feel. The tassel has been produced using red cord knotted in a macrame design, with loop fringing finished with grosgrain ribbon. Both the vintage button and tassel add uniqueness to the hat with the buttons combination of age and characterful imperfections. 

I make hats as unique as the people who wear them. This design, with its mix of fabric and trimmings, will be produced in a very limited number. This is because the main fabrics are remnant pieces. 

An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.

I love the design so much. The hat itself made-up silk, corduroy, gemstones and Completed with a tassel, it’s magnificent design is a modern spin of the classical smoking hats. Absolutely amazing, I saw this item in the medium size that was available, I knew I had to have it, I even messaged the owner if it was possible to make it in my size.

One day I logged on to Esty and there it was listed in my size, I knew immediately what I had to do, it was in two other peoples baskets, but no ! it was destined to me mine !

When it arrived I was astounded, the quality of materials and the craftsmanship was beyond anything I could imagined, this thinking cap was made and designed not to last years but to last decades. I am beyond delighted to own this Harris Tweed cap and I know I will grow old wearing it, I will keep it in great condition so when I have children I will pass it on to them. it was so great and fantastic I even bought another one and I'm thinking about buying a third one.
