Purchasing a hat

When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.

To measure the head

You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

  Measure the circumference around the head keeping  the tape level and firm,
 just above the ears, across the forehead and over the  bump on the back of the head.
 As a guide -  take your head measurement and add approximately half an inch, for comfort, this will give your hat size for a TwiLd Capit Hog handmade hat.

This is a bohemian version of the Victorian style smoking cap, handmade in muted purple soft cotton corduroy with felted layered textiles to the tip and crown. An eye catching hat!  

Felted designs, even when repeated, have their own very distinct character and are therefore one offs. No two are ever identical!

The tip of the hat is layered with aubergine fabric and black corded lace, topped with mossy wisps of purple wool top using a combination of needle felting and nuno felting techniques, which is then machine stitched into. This gives the lace and under fabric a distressed effect and an aged vintage look.

The finished fabric is layered over cotton covered polyester wadding, and the four layers are quilted together for structure. Polyester wadding's springy texture provides that nice quilted look, and it retains it’s shape so the hat can be gently hand washed.
The layered felted embellishment is carried through onto one side of the crown, completing the bohemian Gothic look of this stunning smoking cap.

A hand crafted permanent tassel finishes this original hat, nodule style unique to TwiLd Capit Hog smoking caps, made from vintage fringing and black satin cord. Satin lining gives the interior a sumptuous feel, which is completely hand finished. 

An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.

Absolutely amazing, I saw this item in the medium size that was available, I knew I had to have it, I even messaged the owner if it was possible to make it in my size.

One day I logged on to Esty and there it was listed in my size, I knew immediately what I had to do, it was in two other peoples baskets, but no ! it was destined to me mine !

When it arrived I was astounded, the quality of materials and the craftsmanship was beyond anything I could imagined, this thinking cap was made and designed not to last years but to last decades. I am beyond delighted to own this Harris Tweed cap and I know I will grow old wearing it, I will keep it in great condition so when I have children I will pass it on to them. it was so great and fantastic I even bought another one and I'm thinking about buying a third one.
