When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.
To measure the head
You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

The patriotic colours of red, white, and blue were the inspiration for this Smoking / Thinking Cap with a bohemian feel.
This handmade hat has a distinctive tip of patchwork segments in different denims of blue/ black, red, and blue and white stripe. The addition of scroll machine embroidery in red and blue thread brings them together and adds to the boho look.
Blue/ black denim and cyan blue cotton corduroy form the crown, with a fine red braid highlighting the red in the tip. The soft cyan blue corduroy carries through to the inside of the hat to form part of the lining along with fine red cotton twill, for comfortable wear.
The tip is quilted using four layers, in the unique TwiLd Capit Hog style, combining polyester wadding and cotton, for comfort, structure and durability. The denim and corduroy crown can be fully turned up or lowered to give a more nonchalant look. A complementing vintage button in shades of blue adds the final detail to the centre of the tip, for attaching the removable tassel.
I make hats as unique as the people who wear them. This design, with its mix of fabric and trimmings, has been produced in a limited number of 2. This is because the denim was small sample sized pieces.
The tassel has been produced using blue cord knotted using a macrame technique, and topped with a wooden bead. Two vintage braids are stitched to form the body of the tassel, and the cotton fringe is taken from a vintage curtain tie back. Both the button and tassel add uniqueness to the hat with the combination of age and character.
An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.
