When purchasing a hat you will need to choose a size. In order to do that you will need to know the head measurement of the person the hat is intended for. Measuring the head isn't difficult or complicated to do, but hopefully this quick guide will confirm how it's done.
To measure the head
You will need either a soft tape measure (dressmakers tape measure), or a piece of string and a regular tape measure to measure it against.

The applique design will be unique on each hat, no two hats will be identical.
The vibrant tapestry of the Victorian carpet bag was the inspiration for this characterful Smoking Cap. This handmade hat has a distinctive tip of navy Bedford cord with an appliqued design using paisley vintage fabric off cuts, which means no two hats will be identical. A deep band of luscious navy cotton velvet on the crown is highlighted by a band of vibrant burgundy cotton corduroy. The burgundy carries through to the inside of the hat to form part of the lining along with fine navy cotton twill, for comfortable wear.
The tip is quilted using four layers, in the unique TwiLd Capit Hog style, combining polyester wadding and cotton, for comfort, structure and durability. The velvet and corduroy crown can be fully turned up or lowered to give a more nonchalant look. An unusual design of vintage button adds the final detail to the centre of the tip, for attaching the removable tassel. It's cone shape gives the hat an oriental touch.
I make hats as unique as the people who wear them. This design, with its mix of fabric and trimmings, will be produced in a very limited number. This is because the main fabrics are remnant pieces. The tassel has been constructed using curtain fringing along with various braids. And the button is vintage and I have only five. Both the button and tassel add uniqueness to the hat with the combination of age and characterful imperfections.
An elegant cap based on the eastern looking lounge hat or fez of the 1860's/70's. The perfect gentleman's dress hat, wizard or magician's hat.

Materials: cotton, cotton Bedford cord, cotton covered polyester wadding, cotton velvet, cotton corduroy, cotton twill, fringing, braid.
Each is individually handmade so will differ slightly. Including fabric pattern and braid which is determined by cut, and angle of quilting on tip which is determined after being quilted.
